1st Grade Reading Folder

Reading folders will be completed in the classroom for a majority of the time.  I do encourage daily independent reading at home for 10-15 minutes a day.   Remember to have your child read the book aloud to an adult.  

READING JOURNAL QUESTIONS

As part of our DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time, students will be reading in class and writing in a journal.  Their sentences should meet the criteria below:
 

• A sentence begins with a capital letter.
• A sentence ends with an appropriate end mark (.?!).
• Sentences should make sense.
• Sentences should have 3 or more words.
• Sentences should answer the question, using part of the question in the answer.

2. Who is the main character in this story?

3. What is the setting of the story?  Where does the story take place?

4. What clues tell you where the story takes place?

5. What happened first in this story?

6. What happened in the middle of this story?

7. What happened at the end of this story?

8. Is this story Fiction or Non-Fiction?

9. Who wrote the words in this story? (Author)

10. Who drew the pictures in this story? (Illustrator)

11. Is this book giving information or telling a story?

12. Did you like this story?

13. Why did you like this story, or, why didn’t you like this story?

14. What does this story remind you of?
